Patna Airport Managed 17 Lakh Flyers in a Period of 5 Months
PATNA: The Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna recorded an immense growth of 44.2{dfad1845c18f3d3d13481ef1637ff593fa537ce96fafe7b10d370006d8ed1e9e} in terms of passengers flow in the first 5 months from April to August of the existing financial year.
In between the months of April to June, the growth was also around 44{dfad1845c18f3d3d13481ef1637ff593fa537ce96fafe7b10d370006d8ed1e9e}. The actual flyers flow at the Patna city airport gradually amplified by 7,02,818 in the months of July and August.
According to the statistics in the latest air traffic report of the Airports Authority of India, despite its space limitations, the Patna airport handled 17,20,087 passengers during April to August this year as against 11,92,459 during the same time period in the year 2017.
Bumper passenger traffic and rapid growth of Patna Airport notwithstanding, the overall satisfaction of the flyers has increased over last two consecutive quarters.
The Patna airport ranked 18th when compared to the country’s other main airports. Also the percentage of flyers flow have increased over the corresponding period in the previous financial year is concerned.
Airport director Rajender Singh Lahauria said, “An average growth of around 44{dfad1845c18f3d3d13481ef1637ff593fa537ce96fafe7b10d370006d8ed1e9e} in terms of passenger traffic is quite significant for an airport like Patna considering its space crunch. The daily football at the terminal building is around 2,000, and we keep taking steps to create additional space”.
For instance, the Airport director said, recently a porta cabin has been put up in the security hold space on the ground floor and lately an additional boarding gate opened.
In the meantime, efforts are on to launch work on the development of a new terminal building at the Patna Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport. Lahauria said the stone of the new terminal building would be laid soon.
“The Es 1217-crore project has already been approved by the central cabinet and work order for the same issued”, he said and added the contract for development of the new terminal building has been awarded to Hyderabad- based Nagarjuna Construction Company.
Assumptions are high that the new terminal building would be a two-storey structure comprising six aerobridge. Its apron area would be large on such an extent that will easily allow parking of 14 aircraft at a time against the already existing parking capacity of 4 aircraft.
