Bihar’s transport department launched a mobile pollution-testing van facility to deliver Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates at your doorsteps in Patna.
The department decided to launch this facility after the implementation of the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019.
A trial of the mobile van facility was conducted at the Patna Secretariat, on September 18. and now it is completely functional with a toll-free number.
The transport department has initially deployed 10 such vans into service in Patna. and later it will expand to other districts. Said Sanjay Agarwal, Secretary, State Transport Department.
The (PUC) van is equipped with all tools for pollution checks. And a solar panel has also been installed on top of it for power backup. “Now vehicle owners can call the van to their homes by dialing the toll-free number and they can get the PUC certificate on the spot within few minutes,” he added.

The Bihar transport department has also asked all petrol pumps (all 2,550 outlets of various oil marketing companies in Bihar) and service centers to set up pollution testing centers soon. There is also a proposal to set up 150 new centers in Bihar. According to a report of the state transport department. There are around 500 such centers in Bihar, of which 98 are in the Patna district,
After implementation of the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019 Penalty for violating PUC increased to Rs 10,000 that increases the number of certificate seekers at pollution testing centers. This encouraged the department to launch a new facility in Patna.
As we know Patna is among the most polluted city in the world, according to a recent report. The annual level of particulate matter 2.5 in 2018 was 119.7 micrograms per cubic meter in Patna.
The department will also develop a mobile app to help vehicle owners to avail the service of pollution testing van.
