Bihar Congress MP Maulana Asrar-ul-Haque Qasmi dead at 76

Congress MP Maulana Asrarul Haq Qasmi dies.
PATNA: Lok Sabha MP from Bihar’s Kishanganj and Senior Congress leader, Maulana Asrar-ul-Haque Qasmi, expired early on Friday at 76 after a serious heart attack.

As per the district officials, he passed away at the Kishanganj Circuit House and will be buried at his native place i.e. Tarabadi village.

Maulana Asrar-ul-Haque Qasmi was the popular Islamic scholar and a noted face of the party in the state, mostly in Seemanchal including Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea and Katihar districts.

In 2009, he won the Kishanganj seat in a general elections after five consecutive failures on a Congress ticket. He successfully retained the constituency in year 2014 regardless of the Narendra Modi wave in Bihar and throughout the nation.

In 2014, he had conquered Dilip Kumar Jaiswal from the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of over 1 lakh votes. He was also a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and also a founder member of the All India Milli Council.
