PATNA: Motorcycle-borne criminals gunned down a Patna High Court advocate Jitendra Kumar (52-year old) around 10.30 am on Wednesday, near Bihar Rajya Jal Parshad office at Punaichak under the Shastri Nagar police station area.

According to an eyewitness, two youths riding a motorcycle were following Jitendra Kumar and from behind open several rounds of fire hitting him many times and sped away.

Kumar fell on the ground and died on the spot.

Disturbed by the chilling murder of one of their colleagues, high court lawyers protest near the Patna High Court leading to massive traffic jam on Baily Road and its adjoining areas till evening.

After much effort, the police officers were able to remove the crowd before it could become much more violent. Meanwhile, work at the court remained stalled for the rest of the day.

After this incident, the High Court chief justice Summoned Patna zonal IG Nayyar Hasnain Khan and other senior police officers in the afternoon to know about the investigation into the case.

The IG told the court that an SIT was formed for investigating the case, which was prima facie related to a family property dispute.

Further, Shastri nagar SHO Nehar Bhushan said, an FIR has been lodged by Jitendra’s elder brother Raj Kumar, against the deceased’s wife Neetu Singh, father-in-law Krishna Singh, brother-in-law Pansujit Kumar alias Mithu and mother-in-law Laxmi Devi besides Rakesh kumar alias Bablu, Rupesh Kumar and his wife Supriya Devi, Ritesh kumar and one more person from Khagaul area.

The SHO said Jitendra’s wife has lodged a dowry case against him in the year 2007 and since then she had been living separately with her parents at Banaras Bank Chowk in Muzaffarpur town.

SHO Nehar Bhushan said, police arrested Rupesh, Rakesh, Supriya and Ritesh in this connection.

Muzaffarpur police have arrested Neetu for interrogation.

Sachivalaya DSP Rajesh Kumar Prabhakar said, police is investigating the case from a number of angles and also carrying out raids to nab the criminals.
