Three-Day Film Festival Commenced in Patna at Kalidas Rangalays
The three-day 10th Patna Film Festival, namely Cinema of Resistance, began at Kalidas Rangalaya here on Sunday.
Organized by Hirawal, a unit of Jan Sanskriti Manch, the three-day film festival was inaugurated by Pawan Shrivastava, a film maker and director of first independent crowd-funded film ‘Naya Pata’.
The very first documentary screened here at the festival was Sanjay Matru’s ‘Apni Dhun Me Kabutri’. This documentary mainly revolved around the life struggles of the Uttarakhund’s popular folksinger ‘Kabutri Devi’.
Kabutri Devi was actually a great conversationalist whose story depicts the gender struggles of each women of this country. ‘Her way of narrating the story was really heart wrenching’, Matru said.
Matru on being asked about the impression of the movie onto audience said, ‘I expect the audience to be bit more sensitive in their understanding of gender dynamics of our society. The documentary besides also portrays the resistance power which does not need a huge feminist revolution, but is obviously possible at household level too’.
Three-Day Film Festival convener Santosh Jha said, ‘Its quite important for us to show resistance to the ones who are sitting in power.
Cinema is indubitably a great medium for depicting real life struggles of classes which are neglected and backward in the society. We are attempting our level best to become an eye-opener’ for our society.
Shweta Kumari, a resident of Rajendra Nagar, was quite excited to be there as an audience. She said, ‘I am a big fan of content-driven movies. It’s great that our city is gradually getting exposed to such awesome stories’.
Some movies that will get screened in the next two days include ‘Naach Bhikhari Naach’, a documentary based on Bhikhari Thakur, ‘Ferdinand’ a Spanish animated movie directed by Carlos Saldanha and ‘Womaniya’, a documentary film of first all-women band of Bihar.
