Nearing winter and Clear Sky Causing Nip in Patna Air
Sudden Twist in weather follows snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir
A twist in weather and sudden nip in Patna air felt on this Diwali as the minimum temperature has fallen down by around four degrees to 14.80 C.
The minimum temperature tumbled by another 0.30 C on Thursday to 14.5°C, causing many to take off their woolen clothes.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) Patna station scientist Anand Shankar throws light on this sudden twist in the weather and said: “This was the effect of western disturbances, which have led to snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and an increase in cold in the Punjab, Haryana and Delhi region. It brought a northerly, chilly, component to the westerly winds blowing over Bihar and led to a drop in temperatures.”
Western disturbances are storm systems that create over the Mediterranean region and move across western Himalayas, northern India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
According to Anand Shankar, the weather will now remain constant at these temperature levels at least for the next one week, with westerly winds prevailing.
The alteration in daily minimum and maximum temperatures would be by just one or two degrees at most.
Weather Scientist Anand said – incidence of thin fog near agricultural fields and water bodies has started, even though it will take some time to reach Patna. Most probably the next few mornings could witness hazy sunshine.
The 4-day Chhath festival is going to start on November 11, and scientists assured devotees that the Sun God will keep smiling on them from November 12. The temperature will drop slightly further from 17th November. There’s no rain broadcast during this period.
Many Patnaites stretched out their winter wear and woolen clothes in the sun on Thursday to order to remove the musty smell from months in cupboards.
