National Award-Winning Maithali Movie “Mithila Makhaan”
Mithila Makhaan got the award for the best Maithili film at 63rd National Film Awards. It is for the first time that a Made in Bihar movie got a national award.
This movie has officially selected for the International film festival of South Asia in Toronto. Also showcases in Jagaran film festival -2016 and National film festival-2016.
Despite the fact Mithila Makhan won a National award, it couldn’t get a theatrical or OTT release. The movie failed to find any buyer or distributor. So the makers had decided to release the movie on its own online platform bejod.in.
Nitin Chandra is the director of this film. This movie is produced by Pravin Kumar and actor-producer Neetu Chandra’s production house Champaran Talkies. The lead roles are played by Kranti Prakash Jha and Anurita Jha. Pankaj Jha is a negative lead in this movie. Songs in the movie is sung by Udit Narayan, Suresh Wadekar, Hariharan, and Sonu Nigam.
Hrithik Roshan, Nawazuddin Siddique, Manoj Vajpayee, Vidya Balan, and many other Film personalities have promoted the movie.
Inspiration for making film
Nitin Chandra shared the entire story behind the making of this film, the struggle related to it, and the journey till winning the National Award. The director has got the inspiration in the 2008 floods in Bihar. While working with the NGO on the Nepal-Bihar border and the tragedy caused by the flood gave rise to many stories in the mind. He made a documentary film to understand this problem.
Then he realized that many reasons exist due to heavy migration from Bihar and no development at the ground level. There was havoc in North Bihar and after that the land covered with sand, which cannot be cultivated.
Shooting in Toronto
It was a big challenge to make this film because the director wanted to shoot in the winter of Toronto. The normal days of winter in Toronto ranged from -35 to -10 degrees Celsius temperature occurs. The film has somehow shot guerrillas in the streets of Toronto and inside their metro. It was a 7 day shoot in Toronto.
Back to Bihar
Further, the shooting has started in May in Bihar. The temperature of Bihar in May was 45 degrees Celsius at the time of the shoot. Patna, Darbhanga, Saharsa Supaul, Madhubani, and Kathihar are among the place where the shooting happened. Some parts of the movie also take place in Nepal.
