Central Government Passes Metro Railway Plan For Patna

The state government has submitted detailed report on the Patna Metro Project last month to which Central has given its approval.

Suresh Sharma, Urban development and housing department minister announced this information on Tuesday. Sharma said, “He has been informed that Centre has permitted the proposal and sent back file to us.”

The Metro project will cost over Rs 17,800 crore, out of which 20{dfad1845c18f3d3d13481ef1637ff593fa537ce96fafe7b10d370006d8ed1e9e} will be bore by each, the state and Centre.

Sharma said, “another report proposal will be submitted to the Centre containing description about the funds invested by the State for this project after going through all the details.” He further added, sanction of the state’s share will be procured after cabinet approval.

Sharma also added, to procure state’s fund at its earliest, the process will be completed in November so that the project formally can be launched before year-end.

A 33.1km long tracks has to be set up with two corridors – east-west and north-south. These two corridors will run in two different directions. The east-west corridor will run between Danapur area and Patna railway station via Dak Bungalow Square.

Meanwhile, the south-north corridor will run between inner-state bus terminal and Gandhi Maidan via Rajendra Nagar and Ashok Rajpath. According to the Documents, a time of five year would be taken to complete the project from the date of announcement.

Sources under Urban development revealed that state government has no hurdle regarding fund mobilization as some international funding agencies are showing their interest in the projects.

Another source informed, “The state is looking for the clearance of the project first then after fund procurement will be commenced.”

Besides, department has already started to set up Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) which will be looking after all the responsibilities of executing the project.

The Urban development and housing department principal secretary will be assigned as its ex-officio chairman.

This new department will have directors and each director would be proposed by urban development, energy, transport, finance and road construction departments.
